about
  • Visiting ‘22 charities in 22 countries in 22 weeks’ the ‘Real Way Down’ is an expedition through human suffering and kindness. The project will support each of our partner charities through the production of promotional videos, as well as trying to help access financial support, and in this way offers both immediate and long-term support. The series of films will be broadcast on the ‘Community Channel’, as well as via our multiple media partners, and with other such initiatives, hopes to use innovation and creativity as a powerful tool within development.

The ‘Real Way Down’ is a unique charity project from new development NGO ‘Patchwork World'. The project focuses on supporting grass roots charities, and introduces Patchwork World’s philosophy of combining financial aid with innovation.

“As an organisation we recognise the extraordinary amount of passion and commitment within small focussed charities, where the donor to field efficiency is high, with less money spent on salaries, and bureaucracy. We do, however, also see the necessity for such grass roots organisations to grow and expand, and feel this can best be achieved by catalysing and encouraging a move towards greater cooperation. In this way, we believe an organisation can develop to benefit a wider catchment area, and reach tangible goals, without sacrificing integrity and ethics.”

    – Matt Sarson (founder Patchwork World)
The ‘Real Way Down’ is the first project to be built from the fabric of Patchwork World’s philosophy, and is very much the planting of the seed, which we hope to grow and nurture long into the future. It will introduce our partner charities and observers to the potential of both innovation and cooperation as tools to support grass roots projects, and be the catalyst for our future work in the field. The positive effects made apparent through this project, will then be projected onto, and focussed in on specific niches within the development sector, to push a drive towards tangible goals in basic human rights.

The team will set off on this incredible journey on March 25th 2011, and will launch with a sponsored ‘Sleep Out’ at Leadenhall Market, London, in association with London Youth Homeless Charity ‘Centrepoint’.
